Langer, Buchholz, Wittmaack all qualify for state in 2 events
Three area athletes qualified for the state track and field meet in two individual events to highlight performances at a Class 1A district meet on Saturday in Laurens.
The top three place finishers in each event qualify for the state meet, which will be May 30-31 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Schaller-Crestland's Tim Langner, Newell-Fonda's Brett Buchholz and Sioux Central's Cody Wittmaack all qualified in two events.
Langner finished first in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.14 seconds and took third in the 110 high hurdles in 16.07 seconds.
Buchholz won the 100 meters with a time of 11.45 seconds and placed second in the 200 meters in 22.53 seconds.
Wittmaack finished second in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 4 1/2 inches and was third in the 400 meter hurdles in 57.75 seconds.
Newell-Fonda's Eric Johnson won the high jump with a leap of 6-6. A.J. Dahm of Schaller-Crestland placed third in 6-0.
