Beards, bikes, barn dancing and more at Alta's 125th birthday bash
The celebration of the 125th year of existence of Alta may still be three months away, but excitement is beginning to build among community residents.
Members of the Quasquicentennial Planning Committee are beginning to finalize plans for the celebration, which will take place Aug. 29-31. The festivities will include parades, games, sports tournaments, dances and many food booths.
Bob Pender, the owner of The Depot restaurant and member of the parade planning committee, said the level of interest in the celebration from Alta citizens has been steadily increasing.
"Every week there seems to be a few more who show up at the meetings wanting to help," Pender said. "That's encouraging to see."
A giant 90-minute parade Saturday morning will be one of the highlights of the event, as organizers are expecting more than 100 entries. Well-known TV personality with Alta ties, Mike Pace, will act as parade emcee. Pace is perhaps best known as the host of Iowa Lottery programs.
