Alta wins final five events to take South O'Brien title

Alta finished first in the final five events to erase a 25-point deficit and win the South O'Brien Invitational track and field meet last Friday.

Alta scored 119 points in the meet to win by 17 over Remsen St. Mary's. Aurelia was fourth with 82 points.

Alta's Brian Sauter was a double-winner. He captured the 110 high hurdles in 16.0 seconds and took the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1 minute, 0.78 seconds.

Steve Hamer won the 1,600 meters in 4:51.24, while Josh Mann claimed the 800 meters in 2:09.33.

Four relay events placed first. The 4x100 tandem of Jamie Hammer, Jon Francis, Eric Holton and Tyler Droegmiller turned in a time of 46.88 seconds.

The 4x400 unit of Sauter, Francis, Hamer and Tyler DeMan posted a time of 3:43.13. The 4x800 team of Charles Ryherd, Droegmiller, Joey Ciechanowski and DeMan finished in 9:01.

The mile medley quartet of Hammer, Francis, Droegmiller and Hamer turned in a time of 3:53.01.

Holton placed second in the 400 meters in 53.23 seconds. Heath Stille was third in the 3,200 meters in a time of 11:13.79, as was Kyle Sauter in both the 400 meter hurdles in 1:04 and the 110 high hurdles in 17.47 seconds.

Hammer was fourth in the 100 meters in 12.0 seconds, as were Stille in the 1,600 meters in 5:13.58, DeMan in the 400 meters in 55.32 seconds, Holton in the 200 meters in 24.64 seconds, and the 4x200 relay in a time of 1:44.84.

Brad Payne placed fifth in the 800 meters in 2:16.18, while Francis was fifth in the long jump in 17-0 3/4. Brian Botello placed fifth in the 200 meters in 24.98 seconds and sixth in the 100 meters in 12.06 seconds.

Aurelia received a first place finish from Curtis Parker in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:38.47. Parker was second in the 1,600 meters in 4:57.10.

Chris Mikos took second in the 800 meters in a time of 2:09.72, as did four relay teams - the 4x800 in 9:13.4, the 4x200 in 1:42.06, the mile medley in 3:58.57 and the 4x400 in a time of 3:47.75.

Matt Berg placed third in the high jump in 5-6, as did the 4x100 relay in 48.34 seconds. Tyler Kannegeiter was fourth in both the 110 high hurdles in 17.48 seconds and the long jump in 17-4 1/4. John Bentsen took fourth in the 800 meters in 2:12.89.

Placing fifth were Garrett Hill in the 3,200 meters in 11:34.74, Berg in the 400 meters in 56.32 seconds, and Ryan Fitzgerald in the discus in 114-9 and the shot put in 41-1.

Hill placed sixth in the 1,600 meters in 5:23.73, as did Aaron Hinkeldey in the 400 meters in 57.27 seconds and Bentsen in the discus in 113-3.
