Cherokee Rodeo offers three shows, parade, train robbery, barbeque - and even a local American Idol contest

The 37th annual Cherokee PRCA Rodeo comes to town May 29, 30, and 31. Along with the many PRCA and WPRA events are many planned events that will provide fun and entertainment for the family.

The Cherokee PRCA rodeo is produced by the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce Rodeo Board and Barnes/MJM Rodeo of Peterson.

Starting things off Thursday "Family Night" May 29 will be the family fun and games at the fairgrounds from 5 to 7 p.m. Included in the fun and games are free pony rides for the kids, a mechanical bull for all you cowboy wannabes and a dunkin' booth. At 6 p.m. is Mutton Bustin' followed by the rodeo performance at 7:30 p.m.

A coffee hour at the La Grande Hacienda Best Western at 9:30 a.m. starts off the events on Friday "Queen's Night." Following the coffee hour will be a salad luncheon at Bits & Pieces from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At 6 p.m. take the opportunity to meet the queens at the Western BBQ in the fairgrounds. The queens will be signing autographs during this time and the mechanical bull will be running with western flare vendors available.

The Cavaliers drill team will entertain at 6:30 p.m. followed by the rodeo performance at 7:30.

Finishing things off Saturday will be the Depot BBQ from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a Train Robbery at high noon. The rodeo parade begins at 4 p.m. followed by the Siouxland American Idol competition at 5:30 p.m. The first 50 qualifying contestants to register will have the opportunity to compete for the Advance tickets available at the Chamber of Commerce chance to advance to the competition in Hollywood.

At 6:30 p.m. is the "Armed Forces Tribute" to all the men and women serving or who have served the United States of America. The American flag will skydive in after the tribute at 7 p.m. and the rodeo performance follows again at 7:30 p.m.

Advance ticket prices for Thursday and Friday are $8 for adults and $4 for children, gate prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Family ticket packages are available, $25 gets you two adult tickets and three children's tickets. Children three and under are free.
