Arrangements are rapidly coming together for "June-A-Palooza!" - a new celebration coming to downtown Storm Lake on Saturday, June 14.
The event will spotlight the local shopping village and its eateries, showcase the work of local artists with the city's first "Art Crawl," and will provide entertainment, activities and shows of new cars and motorcycles on Lake Avenue.
The planning is being coordinated by Molly Wilson for the new Central Business District Committee, formed early this year to find ways to keep the downtown area strong and attract more visitors.
The 500 block of Lake will be closed to traffic for June-A-Palooza!, with the car and motorcycle displays on the west side of the street, and artists displaying their wares on the east.
Plans are still being finalized, but early efforts include a shuttle service provided by Fitzpatrick Auto to run from the Super Wal-Mart area to downtown that day, in-house promotions by participating businesses, and the Art Crawl throughout the day with local artists displaying/demonstrating/selling their work, sponsored by Witter Gallery and the Library.
Also planned are children's art opportunities on the street, and an inflated Jumping Jupiter bounce ride for small children.
The Boathouse will be cooking lunch outside, and Hy-Vee and Honeykissed Pizza will also provide food. Local musicians will entertain during the afternoon, and a $500 gift certificate drawing will take place at 3 p.m. Over 20 sponsors are involved.
