SLHS, St. Mary's seniors given 67 scholarships

The Storm Lake Dollars for Scholars organization gave 67 monetary awards totaling $28,500 to community students during its annual Dollars for Scholars awards ceremony Sunday afternoon at the Storm Lake Middle School. Seniors from Storm Lake High School and St. Mary's High School received both general DFS awards and designated scholarships from a number of community sponsors.

Awards are based on high academic performance, community and school involvement, work experience, communication ability and future goals. As well as honoring the students' achievements, the program is designed to offset the cost of a student's textbooks for one semester.

DFS funding comes from an annual fund drive in the fall and designated scholarships via memorials, organizations, businesses or families.
