Maier sets two new meet records

Shane Maier set two new meet records in winning two events, and Mike Keller won two events as Storm Lake ran away with the team title in the Storm Lake Invitational last Friday at Tornado Stadium.

Storm Lake racked up 114 points. Carroll was second with 99, Newell-Fonda third with 66 and Storm Lake St. Mary's seventh with 20.

Maier set a new meet record to win the shot put with a throw of 60 feet, 4 inches. He also set a new mark in the discus, placing first with a throw of 162-5.

Keller won the 400 meters in a new meet record time of 50.17 seconds and also won the long jump with a leap of 20-4 1/2.

Two Storm Lake relay teams set new meet records. The mile medley ran a time of 3 minutes, 42.64 seconds and the 4x400 tandem posted a time of 3:26.82.

Dan Christiansen won the 800 meters in a time of 2:12.32.

Placing second for the Tornadoes were Kevin Wulfekuhler in the 1,600 meters in 5:00.02, Tyler Radke in the 400 meter hurdles in 57.62 seconds, and the 4x200 relay in a time of 1:34.64.

Bandaluck Sayarath was third in the 100 meters in 11.73 seconds, as were Mike Miller in the 400 meters in 52.97 seconds, the 4x800 relay in 9:19.2 and the 4x100 relay in 46.2 seconds.

Mike Solem took fourth in the 3,200 meters in 11:30.5, as did Alex Kwikkel in the 200 meters in 24.35 seconds and Logan Masters in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:02.13.

Derrick Randall was fifth in the 100 meters in 11.97 seconds. Tyler Youde was sixth in the high jump in 5-6, as was Adam Sievers in the 3,200 in 11:32.31 and Erik Borke in the 1,600 meters in 5:07.80.

l Newell-Fonda's Eric Johnson set a new meet record to win the high jump with a leap of 6-6. The 4x200 relay of Josh Erie, Aron Nieland, Aaron Gerdes and Jamie Erie won with a time of 1:33.63.

Brett Buchholz took second in both the 100 meters in 11.57 seconds and the 200 meters in 23.29 seconds. The 4x100 was second in a clocking of 45.56 seconds.

Grant Wells placed third in the discus in 127-6, as did Ted Wolff in the long jump in 19-4. Jamie Erie was fourth in the 110 high hurdles in 16.79 seconds, as were Chad Buchholz in the 1,600 meters in 5:04.14, the mile medley in 3:59.38 and the 4x400 in a time of 3:47.71.

Aaron Kaufman was fifth in the long jump in 18-4 1/2, as was Peter Olson in the 800 meters in 2:18.51. Zach Lussman placed sixth in the 110 high hurdles in 17.37 seconds, as did Scott Utech in the 100 meters in a clocking of 12.17 seconds.

St. Mary's received third place finishes from Matthew Smith in the high jump in 5-8 and Kolin Brighton in the 200 meters in 23.78 seconds.

Sam Becker took fourth in the 400 meters in 55.13 seconds, as did the 4x200 relay team of Brighton, Jeff Foell, Ryan Gessner and Smith in 1:35.83.

The same foursome took fourth in the 4x100 in 46.82 seconds. The mile medley relay placed sixth in 4:06.16.
