Spring jazz blooms in BVU public concert
Valerie McClure, Storm Lake, will perform in the Buena Vista University Jazz Ensemble, on Wednesday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium, Harold Walter Siebens Forum on the BVU campus.
The jazz ensemble will present a concert of "Springtime Jazz," featuring such selections as "A Nasty Bit of Blues," by Doug Beach; "In a Mellow Tone," by Oliver Nelson; "When We're Together," by Les Hooper; and "Between the Devil and The Deep Blue Sea," by Lennie Niehaus.
Director of the jazz band is Dr. David A. Klee, Sr., assistant professor of music and director of jazz studies at Buena Vista University. The concert is open to the public, free of charge.
McClure, daughter of Don and Janet McClure, 420 Otsego St., Storm Lake, is a freshman, majoring in music at BVU.
Psallo jams in teens' Christian concert May 4
On Sunday, May 4, 2003, all area junior and senior high youth are invited to a concert and open gym at Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta. Summit will host this concert of original music, along with praise and worship by the Christian band, Psallo. The concert is at 7:00 pm. and followed by open gym from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. There is no charge for the event.
Psallo is from the Newell area and has four members: Joe Keil, Jeremy Carmody, Carl Christiansen, and Eric Johnson. Psallo has played for numerous church youth group events in northwest Iowa, youth rallies, Siouxland Youth for Christ sponsored events, local community praise and worship services, Storm Lake Star Spangled Spectacular, Junior High student youth conference at Buena Vista University, and Fort Dodge area youth center concerts.
