No shortage of ideas and needs, just cash
The DNR's new coordinator of lake restoration projects sees the creation of his position as a positive sign for Storm Lake.
"Lake restoration is quite a complex process and can take years to develop," said Mike McGhee. "With some of these restoration projects, it was felt that we needed somebody who could devote himself full time."
Mike McGhee is the new Iowa lakes and rivers projects coordinator for the Department of Natural Resources.
He will coordinate restoration efforts at existing lakes, such as dredging and improvements in the lake watershed. He also works with planning projects aimed at the best possible lake water quality.
He was recently in Storm Lake, assisting with the walleye netting and meeting with members of the Save the Lake campaign.
Part of his visit was to make sure all the necessary paperwork was done for Storm Lake to receive its $190,000 appropriation from the state for the local lake project.
