Five events place first for Tornadoes at Estherville Invitational
Shane Maier captured both the shot put and discus, Mike Keller claimed the long jump, and two relay teams were victorious as Storm Lake placed second in Class A at the Estherville Invitational on Wednesday night.
Okoboji won the meet with 115 points. Storm Lake had 76.5. Eight teams participated.
Maier threw the shot put in a new meet record distance of 59 feet, 10 1/2 inches and threw the discus 152-3 1/5. Keller leaped 20-5 1/2 in the long jump.
The 4x200 relay team of Mike Miller, Derrick Randall, Colt Cook and Keller placed first in a time of 1 minute, 36.63 seconds. The 4x400 tandem of Nick Sorbe, Nick Kurtz, Keller and Miller placed first in 3:34.49.
Kurtz placed third in the 400 meters in 56.08 seconds, as did Tyler Radke in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:00.42 and Tyler Youde in the high jump at 5-6.
The 4x800 relay unit of Dan Christiansen, Mike Solem, Sorbe and Youde placed third in 9:15.71.
