A number of Storm Lake students received awards for their skills in subjects ranging from CISCO networking to automotive technology during the Iowa Central Community College Area V 2003 Spring Competition Days in Fort Dodge.
Students from more than 25 schools competed at the event, including Storm Lake High and St. Mary's. Other League of Schools districts such as Newell-Fonda and Schaller-Crestland also sent students to the event.
Justin Mason of Storm Lake High placed first in the Advanced CISCO Networking competition, while fellow SLHS student Justin Loew finished third in the Advanced CISCO Networking event.
Tyler Heinsohn of Storm Lake High placed third in the Automotive Technology competition of the Mechanics division. The team of Kyle Drey, Jeff Speers and Drew Woodle of Storm Lake St. Mary's finished second in the Internet Scavenger Hunt team event, while Speers also placed fourth in the Introduction to Computers competition. Woodle placed fifth in the Introduction to Computers competition.
The team of Brady Miller, Andy Whitlatch, Lindsey Frederiksen, and Heather Storm finished first in the Spring Competition Days Quiz Bowl, and Frederiksen and Storm teamed up to win the Internet Treasure Hunt event. The team of Miller and Tyler Youde finished right behind their fellow SLHS students in the Internet Treasure Hunt, placing second, and Whitlatch finished first in both the CPR and Medical Terminology events.
