Budget cuts force parochial to seek help in programming
A sharing agreement has been reached by the Storm Lake Community School District and St. Mary's Catholic Schools to allow St. Mary's students to participate in instrumental and vocal music and art classes at Storm Lake High School.
The agreement comes after a restructuring of programs at St. Mary's Schools to deal with a reduction in the $700,000 assessment it receives from St. Mary's Church.
Budget cuts for the school were determined in a way to minimize effects on programs and students, said St. Mary's High School Principal Rose Davis.
One of those areas was music, and a decision was made by the St. Mary's School Board to cut one music teacher position and have one K-12 music teacher for the coming school year.
