Iowa Hawkeyes basketball camp planned in Storm Lake

Tuesday, April 8, 2003

The Northwest Iowa Hawkeye Basketball Camp for boys in grades 4-12 will be held once again this summer at Buena Vista University's Siebens Fieldhouse and Lamberti Recreation Center.

The camp will take place from June 9-12. The morning session will run from 9 a.m. to noon for those boys entering grades 8-12. The afternoon session for boys entering grades 4-7 will be from 1 to 4 p.m.

There is a cost for the camp and enrollment will be limited by age division to keep a 10-to-1 camper-to-coach ratio. Applications are due by Friday, June 6.

The entire Iowa Hawkeye coaching staff, along with current players such as Jeff Horner, Greg Brunner, Chauncey Leslie, Jared Reiner and many more will be on hand to demonstrate and teach basketball fundamentals.

Buena Vista head coach Brian Van Haaften, who led the Beavers to its fourth Iowa Conference title in seven years and a Sweet Sixteen berth, and Newell-Fonda coach Paul Loos, who guided the Mustangs to their seventh state tournament appearance and a runner-up finish this season, will also be working on the camp staff.

Brochures may be picked up in Storm Lake at Buena Vista University, any Central Bank location in northwest Iowa, Hy-Vee, Sportsman's, through your local high school, junior high or elementary school coaches, or by calling 1-800-IA-HOOPS.
