'Lights, Camera, Iowa!' comes to BVU

On Tuesday, April 22, 5:30 p.m.: "Lights, Camera, IOWA!" will be held in the Goodenow Seminar Room number 2, Harold Walter Siebens Forum at Buena Vista University. Steve Schott, film consultant to the Iowa Film Production Office, will discuss careers in the film business - including internships in film, video production in the state of Iowa and the Midwest. He will also share some of Hollywood's film connections to Iowa. Additionally, he will share the "from concept to completion" of a video or film. Open to the public, free of charge.

Sights and Sounds of Spring planned

Mark your calendars to attend the Sights and Sounds of Spring events presented by the combined efforts of Middle School music and art departments. The seventh and eighth grade art show and musical concert will be Monday, April 28 and the fifth and sixth grade art show /musical concert will be Wednesday, May 7. Both events will open at 6:30 pm for viewing the art and the music concerts will begin at 7:30 pm. Ice cream floats will be sold after the concerts by the Music Boosters for a great taste of Spring. Come and enjoy both nights of terrific sights and sounds by the Storm Lake Middle School music and art departments!

Arts Council seeks works related to war

The Iowa Arts Council is asking artists to document, interpret and reflect views of the U.S.-led war in Iraq from the home front.

The council will provide up to 33 grants of $1,500 each to eligible Iowa artists and arts organizations. Funding comes from the National Endowment for the Arts. Applications are due by May 2.

Boy Scout pancake breakfast planned

The Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast will be on Saturday, April 12, 7 a.m.-noon at the St. John Lutheran Church, 402 Lake Avenue, in Storm Lake. Adults will be $3.50 and Children 12 and under $2.50. Family Tickets are $10. Sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 103 and Boy Scout Crew 103 and the Hy-Noon Kiwanis and Kiwanis Beavers.

Flute recital to be held at BVU April 10

Dr. David Klee, director of jazz studies and assistant professor of music at BY University, will present a flute recital entitled "Light Springtime Classics" on Thursday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium, Harold Walter Siebens Forum on the BVU campus.

Joining Klee in the performance will be Beth Rowlett on Piano and Jennifer Dreyer on flute. The selection of music for the performance will include 'Sonata La Flute de Pan' for Flute and Piano" by Jules Mouquet, "Five Short Pieces" by Bernard Heiden, "Suite Antique" by John Rutters, 'Joreurs de Flute' by Albert Russel and 'Duettino' for Two Flutes" by Franz Doppler. The concert is an Academic and Cultural Events Series (ACES) performances, free and open to the public. For more information, call Klee at 749-2175.

Book Babies to be held at SL Library

Book Babies will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Storm Lake Public Library. Babies, toddlers under three, along with their parents and older siblings will enjoy bunny stories, music and water table play. The toddler crafts will be a bunny shaped napkin and a green basket.
