The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life in Buena Vista County will kick off on Wednesday, April 16, when organizers of the event will hold a kickoff at the American Cancer Society office, located at 541 Cayuga Street in Storm Lake, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
The kickoff event will allow those wishing to participate in the 2003 Relay for Life to receive information about the event from area volunteers.
"Anyone and everyone can participate," said Carmen Davis, captain of a team that participates in the event. "Whether it's a business, club, school, or family that gets involved. These teams share a common purpose - supporting the American Cancer Society's mission."
Relay For Life is an event that allows people to recognize survivors of cancer and honor the memory of friends and loved ones. It is also a venue for interactive education and provides an environment where relationships can be built with community-based organizations, businesses, service groups, and schools. In establishing these relationships, staff and volunteers can bring Society messages to organizations on a year-round basis.
The volunteer planning committee's goal for this year is to recruit 40 teams and raise $65,000.
