Jaycees offer Operation Hometown Support in SL

Thursday, April 3, 2003

The Greater Storm Lake Area Jaycees are sponsoring Operation Hometown Support and urging everyone in the community to participate in supporting local soldiers overseas.

This project consists of collecting personal care items and food items that soldiers could use while working hard overseas. Jaycees will then package the care boxes and send them to area service men and women. You can assist in providing support to our soldiers by either donating the needed supplies, assisting with postage expenses, or by sending words of encouragement to our soldiers overseas.

There will be several drop-off sites located through out the Storm Lake area to place donated supplies, including Hy-Vee, Bomgaars, McDonald's, Fareway, Abner Bells, and Sports Rehab. There will also be a collection envelope at these sites for those who would like to write letters or cards of encouragement to our soldiers overseas. Leave cards/letters in an unsealed envelope.

To make a monetary donation to the cause to assist in postage expenses of our care packages, the following businesses will accept cash donations: Citizens, Security, First Federal, and Central Banks, and Amerihost Inn. Please make checks payable to the Storm Lake Jaycees, Attn: Operation Hometown Support.

* Albert City: donations will be taken at the Albert City-Truesdale School or you can contact Sarah Demers at 732-6464.

* Newell: donations may be dropped off at the Newell Good Samaritan Center.

To register all local soldiers that would like to receive a care package from the citizens of the Storm Lake Area, please contact the SL Chamber of Commerce at 732-3780.
