St. Mary's Ball to offer Ali fight gloves, Yankee baseballs, Panther bat

Monday, March 17, 2003

St. Mary's Ball and Charity Auction will be offering many great gifts in the live and silent auctions Saturday, March 29, 2003. Some of the featured items include autographed boxing gloves from Muhammed Ali and Leon Spinks, in a plexiglass case, and a set of three baseballs signed by Raul Mondesi, Chuck Knoblauch and Rich "Goose" Gossage. The gloves and baseballs were donated by St. Mary's parishioners Roger and Mary Timko.

Organizers said 50 items and services will be sold during the live auction, and over 100 items sold in the live auction. Also, over 100 gifts will be sold in Paxtons' Chest of Chance.

"We're very pleased with the generosity of the business community and our parishioners to provide such a great slate of gifts for our fund-raiser," said Kay Lenhart, who chairs the event with husband, Ted. Kevin and Marikay Kottke are co-chairs.

Other special items include a 19" television, large area rug, lawyers' bookcase, baseball bat signed by the St. Mary's 2003 State Tournament team, grocery certificates, surf 'n turf, advertising, certificates of deposit, "Name the alley," a chance to be a play-by-play radio announcer, Yankee candles for a year and much more.

Those interested in viewing descriptions and photographs of the items available on the auctions should check out the parish website at www.saintmarysalumni.org.

The St. Mary's Ball and Charity Auction events begin at 5:15 p.m. with a private Royal Panther Club reception for donor couples contributing $150 or higher. This reception is sponsored by Malarky's and runs until 6:30 p.m. Patrons will be treated to appetizers, cocktails and soda.

The general public will arrive beginning at 6 p.m. The Vista Chamber Players will be entertaining the crowd in the ballroom with classical string music. Also, patrons can begin bidding on Silent Auction items placed around the ballroom at this time, and purchase Paxtons' Chest of Chance gift bags.

At 7:30 p.m., a sit-down pork loin dinner will be served. After a few brief announcements, the Live Auction will begin where items with a value over $200 will be sold by the auctioneers.

Following the conclusion of the Live Auction, winners of the Big Getaway Raffle will be drawn. The grand prize winner will take home a getaway vacation from Orange Tree or Nomad Travel or $10,000 cash. Other winners will take home $2,500, $1,000 and two $500 cash prizes.

Raffle tickets are still available for a $100 contribution to St. Mary's. Only 400 tickets will be sold. Winners do not need to be present to win.

Tickets to the ball and charity auction are still available for a minimum donation of $35 per person.

Raffle and ball tickets are available through St. Mary's Development Office by calling 732-4925 or at the Parish Business Office at 320 Seneca Street, Storm Lake. Cash, check, MasterCard and Visa are accepted for forms of payment.

All proceeds from the St. Mary's Ball events benefit the preK-12 education offered at St. Mary's Schools.
