Land deal is final piece of dredging puzzle
You can almost feel a wave of momentum building in Storm Lake, as goals evolve from wish toward reality.
At the center of it all is the massive lake restoration effort. With the announcement of a deal on a new spoil site, it becomes assured that a local dredging project will be underway this summer. Meanwhile, a concept for a Storm Lake State Park is just beginning to take shape, with an array of possible attractions and amenities. Hopes remain focused for a modern aquatic center, which could be within a state park plan, as part of a community center project, or on its own. The city proposes improvements to the LakeTrail recreation path and seeks grants to improve the lake shoreline.
Along with all of that, the largest retail development in the area's history is about to open in the form of a Wal-Mart Super Center, Buena Vista University is building the largest project in its history with a $26 million Science Center taking shape, Buena Vista County Hospital is completing its largest effort with a multi-million-dollar expansion that includes a ground-breaking Center for Women, and Methodist Manor is building an impressive assisted-living senior housing complex.
