AGH has five wrestlers claim titles at sectional

Steven Radke, Bradley Gustafson, Joey Galvin, Matt Gustafson and Brian Borchers of AGH all captured individual titles to advance to districts after a Class 2A sectional tournament on Saturday at Sioux Center.

The top two place finishers at each weight class advance to the district tournament, which will be held this Saturday in Cherokee.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton won the team title with 222 points. Sioux Center was second with 96, followed by AGH with 188, MOC-Floyd Valley 180.5, Cherokee 130.5 and Western Christian 112.5.

Borchers won by pin in the finals in 1:32 at 275 pounds and also won his other match by pin.

Two wrestlers just missed advancing to districts. Chris Mikos lost a wrestleback match for second place by pin in 5:25 and placed third at 119. Andy Todd lost a wrestleback match for second place at 160 pounds by decision 9-8 and finished third.

Eric Conover placed fourth at 130 pounds. Kory Biggerstaff was fifth at 125, as were Josh Bectal at 152, Ryan Tarbill at 171 and Luke Dreier at 215 pounds. Josh Lyon placed sixth at 145, as did Chaz Bectal at 189 pounds.

"The kids gave a very good effort and we were happy with that," AGH co-coach Steven Phelps said. "We just couldn't get many breaks go our way all day, which would have helped to get a few more guys on to districts. We will work hard this week and get the kids prepared for districts and see what happens."
