Shot at buzzer by P-P spoils St. Mary's upset bid

Josh Freimuth scored on a 5-footer after an offensive rebound as time expired to give Pomeroy-Palmer a 60-58 victory over Storm Lake St. Mary's in a Northwest Conference game on Friday night in Storm Lake.

St. Mary's led 17-14 after the first quarter. It was 29-29 at the halftime break and 48-36 Knights heading into the fourth period. St. Mary's outscored the Knights, ranked 10th in Class 1A, 22-12 in the fourth quarter.

Billy Mach finished with 21 points, while Kyle Drey added 15 and Ryan Gessner nine. Drey collected 11 rebounds and Matthew Smith four. Mach handed out five assists, while Gessner tallied four. Drey charted two steals.

St. Mary's, now 8-5 in the league and 10-6 overall, made 20 of 52 for 38 percent. The Knights were 21 of 49 for 43 percent.
