He talked tough. He walked tough. He looked tough.

But that's all a misconception, preconceived notion... a stereotype.

This homeboy graduated from Harvard with honors. But for Richard Santana, a former California gang member, people can't see past his appearance.

He's still a homeboy.

"I can still walk into a place and have people look down at me for the way I walk, the way I talk and the color of my skin," he said. "If it happens to me, I know it can happen to you."

Santana was the keynote speaker at Storm Lake High School's Diversity Day. He delivered a message of education and breaking down stereotypes.
