NEWELL - Jennifer Schumann scored 13 points to lead four players in double figures to help send 15th-ranked Newell-Fonda to a 64-53 victory over Wall lake View-Auburn on Saturday night.
Newell-Fonda, now 14-2 overall, led 19-13 after the first quarter, 36-24 at halftime and 53-38 heading into the fourth period of play.
Ashley Bellinghausen added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Mustangs, while Kristen Culp had 12 points. Ashley Loos contributed 10 points, four assists and four steals. Jenny Scharn also had four assists.
Alison Waggie led WLVA with 22 points. Kristen Stock added 17.
"The key to the game was free throws," Newell-Fonda coach Dick Jungers said. "WLVA was able to make 20 of 31 and it allowed them to stay in the ball game. We went 7 of 14 from the line. This was a good win coming off of a game on Friday night. Offensively, the girls again did a really nice job of moving the ball around to the open shooters and knocked down the shots. The balanced scoring shows that the girls are really starting to gel together."
