The next big step in a state park effort will take place Feb. 18 when all involved in the preliminary discussions come together to develop a vision for the project.
Since last fall, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has been exploring possibilities for its involvement in the project and has brought in its lead landscape architect, Angela Corio, to explore a possible plan.
That could be as simple as a sign stating "Storm Lake State Park" with a map of the city's current LakeTrail, or it could be as complex as developing a lodge and destination park for tourists.
In recent weeks, Storm Lake Mayor Jon Kruse's task force on a community rec center has been exploring how its project could fit in with the state park effort.
