SL shines at BC-Ida Grove Invitational

Dylan Wagener finished second at his weight class to highlight Storm Lake's performance at the 33rd annual Battle Creek-Ida Grove Invitational wrestling meet on Saturday.

Storm Lake placed 15th in the team standings with 65.5 points. Kingsley-Pierson was the winner with 208. AGH was fourth with 137 and Schaller-Crestland 16th with 52. Twenty-one teams participated in the two-day tournament.

Wagener lost by decision 9-3 to Kingsley-Pierson's Justin Bohlke, the defending state champion, in the finals at 130 pounds. In earlier rounds, Wagener won by technical fall 18-2, won by decision 5-4, and won by major decision 16-5. Wagener now has a 21-8 record.

George Romualdo placed third at 145. He won his third-place match by major decision 9-0. Earlier, Romualdo won by pin in 3 minutes, 57 seconds, won by pin in 1:20, lost by pin in 1:51, and won by decision 10-7. Romualdo improved his mark to 24-5.
