Revamped Arts Council enthused as culture 'hub'

Thursday, January 23, 2003

With new leadership and fresh enthusiasm, the Storm Lake Arts Council is planning to build on the community's colorful cultural assets.

In a January election, Sherise Gibson was narrowly selected as the new president of the council. Following several resignations, new members have filled the void on the board of directors. Some 30 people attended a social event launching the new council last week, and many have stepped forward to be part of the effort.

"The council involves all different kinds of people from all walks of life. We want to give back to the community what belongs to all of Storm Lake, and also to begin incorporating all of the other towns of the area," Gibson said. "Bringing cultural activities to this area, bringing people into the area to attend good events and getting people involved will benefit not only Storm Lake, but the whole region."
