John Plaisance and Lara Queen, both of Storm Lake, were married August 10, 2002, at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Rev. Duane Queen, father of the bride, and Rev. Claude Jones of the Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church in Des Moines officiated.

Parents of the groom and bride, Don and Dar Plaisance and Duane and Donna Queen, are also of Storm Lake.

The maid of honor was Paula Queen, sister of the bride, of Lincoln, NE; bridesmaids were Michelle Bowers, sister of the groom, of Ottumwa, and Sarah Todd, friend of the couple, Ankeny. Best man was Jeff Jorgensen, friend of the couple, of Storm Lake; groomsmen were Chris Paulsen, friend of the couple, of Storm Lake and Tyler Schuling, friend of the couple, of Urbandale; ushers were Phil Queen, brother of the bride, of Laurens, Chris Bowers, brother-in-law of the groom, of Ottumwa, Steve Brown, friend of the couple, of Emmetsburg, and Jason Niemann, friend of the couple, Lincoln, NE; ring bearers were Dalton Bowers, nephew of the groom, and Conner Smith, cousin of the bride. Personal attendant was Amie Lang, friend of the couple, Iowa City; guest book attendants were Laura Podolak, friend of the couple, of Aurora, CO, and Nate Hugg, friend of the couple, of Des Moines; gift table attendant was Jessica Smith, cousin of the bride. Grandparents of the bride are Edith Evelyn Blackmun of Storm Lake and Clark Queen of South Sioux City, NE; grandparents of the groom were Don Wiersma of Storm Lake and Doris Plaisance of Manchester, NH. Musicians were the Vista Chamber Players String Quartet, Alan and Kathi Buckingham, vocals, and Barb Wells, organist.

The reception was held at Siebens Forum at Buena Vista University. Hosts were Randy and Glenda Gerard, and Jim and Janice Ungerman, uncles and aunts of the groom. Punch servers were Berna Stading and Janet Wiersma.

The couple traveled to Estes Park, CO, for their wedding trip. They will reside in Overland Park, KS, where Lara will work as the Assistant Director of Annual Giving at William Jewell College and John will work at New Balance in Kansas City.


Tammy Eileen Pickhinke and Matthew Joel Hansen were united in marriage on Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, with Father Patrick O'Kane officiating.

Parents of the couple are Eugene and Eileen Pickhinke of Early and Edward and Audrey Hansen of Alton. Special guest was Betty Laursen of Peterson, grandmother of the bride.

Maid of Honor was Jill Pickhinke, sister of the bride, Sioux City. Bridesmaids were Heidi Pickhinke, sister of the bride, Sioux City; Terri Reynolds, friend of the bride, Des Moines; and Kris Hansen, sister of the groom, Vermillion, SD. The flower girl was Jennifer Hansen, cousin of the groom, Alton. The bride's personal attendant was Jamie Dawson, friend of the couple, Cherokee.

Best man was Orville Pottebaum, friend of the groom, Alton. Groom's men were Mark Hansen, brother of the groom, Alton; James Van't Hof, friend of the groom, Granville; and Brian Pickhinke, brother of the bride, Early. The ring bearer was Evan Laursen, cousin of the bride, Peterson.

Ushers were Dave Schoenherr, friend of the couple, Sioux City; Aaron Heronemous, friend of the groom, Newkirk; Mike Lubeck, friend of the couple, Cherokee; and Benjamin Whitmore, brother-in-law of the groom, Des Moines.

Servers for the ceremony were Abby Mohr, cousin of the bride, Early, and Rosalie and Emily Full, friends of the groom, Alton. Bernadine Pickhinke, aunt of the bride, Nemaha, was the organist. Soloists were Heidi Pickhinke and Jean Zenk, friend of the groom, Alton. Jenna Hansen, sister of the groom, Alton, was the Lector. Guest book and gift bearers were Lisa Whitmore, Des Moines, and Jenna Hansen, both sisters of the groom. Videographer was Dale Nellis, friend of the bride, Early; and the photographer's assistant was Ellen Hartman, friend of the couple, Early. Karla Pickhinke, cousin of the bride, Storm Lake, and Mary Pottebaum, friend of the groom, Alton, were the flower pinners.

A reception and dance were held at the Alta Community Center. Music for the dance was provided by Duane Murley, Rockwell City. Host and Hostesses were Gordon and Leanne Reynolds, friends of the bride, Early and Tony and Kris Full, friends of the groom, Alton. Cake servers were Deb Thompson, friend of the bride, Schaller; Maretta Budden, friend of the groom, Granville; and Erin Laursen, cousin of the bride, Peterson. Punch servers were Janet and Elizabeth Laursen, aunt and cousin of the bride, Peterson. Waitresses were Pam and Steph Wetherell, friends of the bride, Cleghorn and Becky Tapper, friend of the bride, Marcus.

Following a honeymoon to Colorado, Wyoming and the Black Hills, the couple resides on a farm near Alton. Tammy is employed by Klay, Veldhuizen, Bindner, De Jong & Jacobsma, P.L.C. in Alton and Matt is employed by Darling International, Inc. in Alton and also farms.
