Nicholson inducted into Hall of Fame

They were some of the legendary high school track and field coaches in the state of Iowa.

Dean Nicholson now has his name alongside theirs in the Iowa Track Coaches Hall of Fame.

Nicholson, who led Storm Lake to the Class 3A state track and field championship last season, was inducted into the Hall of Fame at an awards ceremony in conjunction with the annual Iowa State Track Clinic on Saturday in Des Moines.

Nicholson was also named the Class 3A Coach of the Year.

Nicholson, who retired from coaching after last season, coached track and field at Storm Lake High School for 45 years and 19 as the head coach.

Nicholson has led Storm Lake to three state titles, two runner-up finishes, a fourth, a fifth and a sixth-place finish in 19 years at the helm.

Nicholson's list of track and field accomplishments include coaching 158 state qualifiers, 41 state place-winners, three Lakes Conference titles, three conference runner-up finishes, three third-place finishes and four fourth-place finishes.
