Delma Margaret Wilbur, 87, a life-long area resident, died Monday, December 3, at her home in Alta after a lengthy illness.
The funeral service was held on Friday, December 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Robert Schimmer officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Storm Lake.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Delma.
Delma Margaret Schuler was born March 9, 1915 on the farm near Alta, the daughter of Herman and Katherine (Kevane) Schuler. She attended school in Alta and graduated from the Alta High School in 1932. She also attended Business School in Grand Island, Neb.
On December 27, 1948 Delma married Orval W. Wilbur at Texarkana, Ark. They made their home in Storm Lake and Alta.
Delma was a waitress at the Cobblestone for many years, at Ella's and she was a cook at the Pantry Café. She also sold Avon and later worked at Swanson's Grocery Store and Wholesale Market in Storm Lake.
Delma was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and the Legion of Mary. She was a member of the local golf and country clubs with golfing one of her main hobbies. She also enjoyed playing all sorts of cards, including bridge and poker, on a regular basis. She loved to dance and when she wasn't working at the Cobblestone you could find her on the dance floor.
Her family includes her husband Orval of Alta; her daughter Mary and her husband Clyde Wandrey of Schaller; her sons: Mike and his wife Kathy of Storm Lake and Tom and his wife Anne of Orono, Minn; her grandchildren: Steve and Stava Wilbur, Mike Wilbur, Dylan Wilbur, Chris and Jona Wandrey, Lynn and Mike Wattier, Mike Wandrey, Justin Wandrey and Dylan Wilbur; a brother Tom and his wife Pat Schuler of Storm Lake; sister Evelyn Hansen of Hayward, CA; Uncle Babe Schuler of Storm Lake and an aunt, Ann Struck of Storm Lake.
Preceding Delma in death were her parents Herman and Kate; a brother Leo Schuler and his wife Bette; a sister Katie Benberg and a brother-in-law Allie Hansen.
