Boys and Girls Home, Family Services part of program

Boys and Girls Home and Family Services, Inc., has been selected to serve the northwest Iowa area for foster care recruitment and retention as part of the KidSake program, a grant-funded program through the Department of Human Services and coordinated through the Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parents Association.

The purpose of the project is to find special families for special kids. The project goal is to recruit families willing to become foster parents a provide a safe temporary environment for foster children and to recruit families willing to adopt children with special needs, who are ages eight to eighteen. Boys and Girls is one of two agencies in the northwest Iowa region selected to be a provider of recruitment and retention services, as well as providing orientation and training to prospective and new foster and adoptive families.

Northwest Iowa territory which Boys and Girls Home will oversee includes the Sioux City Department of Human Services service area including the counties of Buena Vista, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Cherokee, Woodbury and Ida. Boys and Girls Home operates this service out of its Cherokee site. Since assuming the territory Boys and Girls Home has served 30 families through this program.

Boys and Girls Home and Family Services serves thousands of children and families each year through a variety of programs including counseling services, child care and preschool programming, residential treatment for adolescents with behavior disorders, outreach, foster care services, and alternative educational programming.
