Concordia Seminary Chorus to appear at St. John Lutheran Church

Tuesday, December 3, 2002

The Concordia Seminary Chorus of St. Louis, Mo., announces its 2002 Advent Tour. The Rev. Henry V. Gerike is the director of the choir. The choir will present a service of congregational hymns, readings and settings of psalms and spiritual songs for the season of Advent on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 402 Lake Ave., Storm Lake.

The music for the service has been specifically selected to reflect the season of Advent. The service begins with the service of light, during which the canticle, "O' Gladstone Light, O' Grace" by Claude Goudimel, will be featured. Motets focusing on the Advent themes will be sung by the Chorus, while hymn and psalm settings will invite participation by the congregation. A new setting of Psalm 4 will conclude the psalmody. The closing hymn is the Charles Wesley text, "Lo, He Comes with Clouds Descending."

The touring choir of the Concordia Seminary Chorus consists of students who are preparing to become pastors in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. They represent a portion of the full Concordia Seminary Chorus, which numbers 100 singers.

Benjamin Dose, son of David and Donna Dose of Storm Lake, is a member of the touring choir.

All residents of the Storm Lake area are invited to this special service.
