an Academic All-American

STORM LAKE - David Laudner of Buena Vista was selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America College Division Second Team, it was released.

Laudner, a senior offensive lineman from Rockwell, has a 4.0 grade-point average in political science. He was one of 48 players selected for both teams. Laudner represented District VII.

SM Alumni

to host hoop tournament

STORM LAKE - The Storm Lake St. Mary's Alumni Association will be hosting the first annual St. Mary's Alumni, Family and Friends Basketball Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 28, at St. Mary's School.

The event is open to anyone who has a team of at least five players. Anyone who does not have a team will be assigned to one.

SL Jamboree

to tip off season

STORM LAKE - The 13th annual Storm Lake Basketball Jamboree will tip-off the season for 14 high school teams.

The jamboree will be tonight at Storm Lake High School.

The pairings for the jamboree include Odebolt-Arthur vs. Sheldon at 6 p.m.; third and fourth grade NBA Amateurs at 6:40 p.m. and 6:50 p.m.; South O'Brien vs. Galva-Holstein at 7 p.m.; third and fourth grade NBA Amateurs at 7:40 p.m.; and Laurens-Marathon vs. Storm Lake at 8 p.m.

Youth wrestling free trial night set

STORM LAKE - The Tornado Youth Wrestling program will host a free trial night on Monday, Dec. 9.

The program is for students in grades 2-6.

Second and third graders will meet each Monday at the Storm Lake High School wrestling room from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Fourth, fifth and sixth graders will meet at the Storm Lake Middle School wrestling room.

The registration fee is $15, which includes a T-shirt. For more information call 732-5711.
