BVU music department to host madrigal dinners

Monday, December 2, 2002

The music department at Buena Vista University will be presenting its annual Christmas Madrigal Dinners on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 1 and 5:30 p.m. in the Siebens Forum Ballroom. The two-hour festive dinner will feature vocal and instrumental music and some hilarious antics.

Under the direction of Paula Keeler, assistant professor music at BVU, the elite group of student singers at BVU will enchant and delight, presenting two hours of vocal and instrumental music, humorous sketches and period revelry focused on Renaissance practice displayed from 1400-1500 A.D.

Reigning over this year's event will be queens Kimberly Wankum from Marcus and Rachael Bossow from Spencer, and kings Paul Kolsrud from Red Wing, Minn., and Nathan Riedell from Lakeview.

The 34-member Royal Court will be joined by guest high school ensembles from Odebolt-Arthur High School (1 p.m. dinner) and Westwood High School (5:30 p.m. dinner).

Guest talent will include a recorder consort of Storm Lake adults and college students and instrumental solos.

Music is primarily from the Renaissance Period with jokes, dances and seasonal joviality of all types. This is the fourth year for the Madrigal Dinner.

The dinner will consist of a seven-course meal served amid the seasonal entertainment of music, comedy and seasonal atmosphere. BVU Vista Singers will present music throughout the meal with string, brass and woodwind accompaniment .

Tickets for the dinners are $20 with a group rate of $16 for parties of eight or more.

Tickets are now on sale for the Madrigal Dinners through the music department at BVU, until Dec. 4. To obtain ticket reservations, call 712-749-2193.
