Buena Vists whips Northwestern, 37-9

Aaron Loewwns started a string of five consecutive wins as No. 6 ranked Buena Vista pulled away to hand Northwestern a 37-9 setback in a college wrestling match on Wednesday night at Siebens Fieldhouse.

Loewens, a returning national qualifier at 157 pounds, pinned Heath Beasley in a time of 1 minutes, 53 seconds to give the Beavers a 19-3 lead.

Buena Vista's Pat Wilsbacher then won by major decision, 16-5 at 165 pounds and Rick Delagardelle was a winner by decision 11-7 at 174 to make it 26-3 Beavers.

Luke Ball kept the ball rolling with a victory by technical fall in 6:23 at 184 pounds.

Adam Buthe finished off the five-match winning streak with a win by pin in 1:43 over Asa Fry at 197 pounds. That made the score 37-3 Buena Vista.

Buena Vista heavyweight Steve Hitchcock lost by pin in 5:50.

Buena Vista also won the first three matches of the dual. Joe Honts won by forfeit at 125 pounds. Mike Vagher was a 19-7 winner over Scott Treft at 133, and Luke Cross prevailed 9-2 at 141 pounds.

Buena Vista, now 2-0 in duals, wrestles in the Central College Duals today at Pella.
