Raymond R. Holstein, 82, of Alta, passed away at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center on November 13.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, with Pastor Lilette E. Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Schaller Cemetery in Schaller. Barker Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of arrangements.
Raymond was born the son of Edward and Laura (Bendorf) Holstein on January 27, 1920 in Powell, Wyo. He attended Rose Hill School in Blair, NE. He was married to Helen Nelson until her death in 1989. Ray served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He farmed in the Alta and Schaller areas. He enjoyed softball, bowling, and golfing. He was a member of VFW Post #4704 of Schaller and he served on the church and elevator boards. In 1990 he married Lillian Swanson in Alta.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian; two sons, Ronald and Kathy of Schaller and Robert and Jeanette of Fort Dodge; one daughter, Sheryl and Donald Platt of Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Don and Donna, Marvin and Marjorie, Walt and Delores, and Roger and Patty; one sister, Phyllis and Delmer Bruns; Lillian's children, Janet and Clayton Porter of Adel, Lorraine and William Plander of Minneapolis, MN, Phyllis and Don Witzel of Palmer, Ala, and Joleen and Garny Gaffey of Pine River, MN; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and Lillian's sisters and brothers, Clara and Melvin Samuelson, Vivian Toomer, and Kenneth and Evelyn Gregerson.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Helen; two sisters, Ethel Van De Venter and Gladys Mogenson; and two brothers, Chris Holstein and Gene Holstein.
