Good neighbors make for good business, or at least that's the attitude of the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce.
While some may see neighboring cities as economic competitors, Chris Nolte of the Storm Lake Chamber says his organization would rather work with those cities than fight them.
Since Storm Lake and Spencer are connected by Highway 71, Nolte said that he has contacted both Spencer economic development leaders and the Corridor of Opportunity program about the possibilities of the region working together on some promotion and development efforts.
He has also spoken with Cherokee economic development leaders to suggest possible cooperative marketing ideas to promote a "C.A.A.S.L." region - the Cherokee, Aurelia, Alta and Storm Lake communities along the Highway 7 corridor.
While there has been some recent turnover in contact positions in Spencer and Cherokee, Nolte said, both communities have seemed receptive to the possibilities, and it is an avenue he hopes to explore further in the future.
