Albert City tractor in new calendar
A 1941 Thieman tractor is featured in a full page on the 2003 Classic Farm Tractors Calendar. It is owned by Wayne Thieman, Newell, son of one of the original partners of the Thieman Harvester Co., the firm that built these low-cost tractors locally in the 1930s and 1940s.
Advertised as the "world's lowest priced tractor," the Thieman tractor was a no-frills unit that listed for $495 with steel wheels or $620 with rubber tires. A Model A Ford engine powered the tractor, sold through 400 U.S. and Canadian dealers, most of them Ford auto dealers. Wayne Thieman's son, Dr. Kent Thieman, has given a Thieman tractor to the Iowa Historical Society.
The l4th edition Classic Farm Tractors calendar, created, authored and coordinated by John Harvey, president of Classic Tractor Fever, was begun in 1989. "It's not just a calendar, it's a keepsake," says Harvey. The calendar retails for $9.50 plus $3 shipping and handling. For information, call Classic Tractor Fever at (800) 888-8979.
