Shari O'Bannon earned a third term as county recorder, beating Deb Overgaard 3,511 to 2,289. Democrat O'Bannon had about 60 percent of the vote compared to her Republican challenger who had 40 percent.
O'Bannon, Storm Lake, said she is proud and excited about another four years.
"I'm looking forward to what we're going to be doing as far as the technology goes," she said. "And I'm just thankful to the voters.
"It's kind of like getting a report card, and the voters tell you if you're doing OK or not," O'Bannon said about the election. "They told me I was doing what they want me to do."
The biggest challenge for the recorder's office now is working on making many documents available on the World Wide Web.
"There's a lot of work to be done, especially when you do something that major," O'Bannon said. "Privacy is always a challenge, but the system will be good."
Overgaard could not be reached for comment at presstime.
