Bill Lanphere, Storm Lake, earned his first term on the board of supervisors. He was unopposed on the ballot, though there was a write-in campaign for outgoing supervisor Doug Bruns of Alta
Lanphere received 4,163 votes or about 90 percent. Write-in candidates received 445 votes.
The Republican feels he'll bring a diverse background to the board, with past experiences as a farmer and livestock producer, head of the Storm Lake chamber and longtime volunteer for the Red Cross.
Lanphere said he is pleased to be elected. He plans on starting to brush up on issues and learn his way through the courthouse.
"I'm looking forward to the task ahead, but I know we've got some real problems and some real challenges," he said.
Despite winning the Republican Primary against Bruns, Lanphere welcomed the late-minute write-in campaign, saying that voters need a choice.
