Funeral services for Ava Virgene Post, 87, of Alta, were held Monday, November 4, at the United Methodist Church, Alta, with Reverend Jamie Cutler officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta.
Ava Virgene Post, daughter of Carl and Addie (Williams) Gulbranson was born in Nokomis Township on July 30, 1915. She attended Alta School and graduated in 1933.
On September 30, 1939, Ava was united in marriage to Leland Roy Post. This union was blessed with three children, Russel Roy, Donald Ray, and William Wayne.
Ava worked at various jobs, including nine years at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake and 12 years at Sunset Knoll in Aurelia.
Ava was a life-long member of the Alta United Methodist Church; she taught Sunday School and was president of the UMW and circles. She was a charter and life member of the Alta VFW Auxiliary #6172, where she took an active part and was past president in district and state offices. Ava joined the Alta Chapter #138 Order of the Eastern Star in 1937 and held many offices. She also belonged to the past Matrons Club. Ava loved to sew and did volunteer sewing for Church missions and Veterans Hospitals. She loved to bake and make pies for her family. She also enjoyed golf, fishing, and camping.
Ava passed away on October 30 in Storm Lake at the age of 87 years and three months.
Ava is survived by three sons, Russel of Alta, Donald and his wife Merri of Storm Lake, and William and his wife Tammy of West Des Moines; four grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Joseph, and Katie; one sister, Ila Lee of Alta; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Leland on December 27, 1992; and her brother, John Lee Gulbranson in 1981.
