Funeral services for David C. Schmidt, 59, of Storm Lake, will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, with Pastor Connie Spitzack and Pastor Mark Youngquist officiating.
Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
David died Friday, November 1, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
David Charles Schmidt was born August 2, 1943, the son of Paul H. and Elda (Becker) Schmidt. He graduated from the Manchester High School in 1961. He received his Liberal Arts degree from the University of Iowa. David was employed as an assistant Manager of McDonalds during his college years. On March 4, 1977 David married Virginia Clause at the First Lutheran Church in Manchester. After returning to Manchester he worked for Henderson Manufacturing, managed the Tommy Tucker Restaurant, worked in quality control for Prestolite Battery, sold insurance for AAA Motor Club, and then began selling real estate. After moving to Storm Lake in March of 1990 David continued to sell real estate. He later worked in the cafeteria at IBP until he became the circulation manager for the Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune. David was a member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church, the Soul Food Group, and had sung in the church choir. He enjoyed all types of sports.
Survivors include his wife Virginia (Gini) of Storm Lake; his father, Paul Schmidt of Manchester; two brothers, Gordon and his wife Alice Schmidt and Eldon Schmidt all of Manchester; one sister, Maryelyn and her husband Rick Davis of Walnut Creek, CA; one sister-in-law, Alice Arnold of Dubuque; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Preceding David in death was his mother.
