Brent Kai rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns and John Ireland ran for 112 yards and two scores as Aurelia, ranked second in eight-man football, drubbed Remsen St. Mary's 63-26 on Friday night at Aurelia.
Aurelia finished the regular season 9-0. It will play in the playoffs next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at a site to be determined.
"It was fun to have the undefeated season," Aurelia coach Myron Radke said. "We're really tickled for the kids."
Aurelia struck first when Brent Kai ran 23 yards for a touchdown through the Remsen St. Mary's defense. Kolin Peterson kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
The Hawks quickly answered 25 seconds later when Mike Wiederholt took a handoff and rambled 64 yards for the touchdown. The two-point conversion attempt failed.
Aurelia would then score 21 unanswered points to take a 28-6 halftime lead. John Ireland capped one drive with a 2-yard run to make it 15-6 in the first quarter.
Kai culminated another drive with a 3-yard run with 7:58 to go in the first half. The two-point conversion pass from Tyler Nelson to Kai was good for a 22-6 lead.
Aurelia made it 28-6 when Nelson found Matt Berg for a 3-yard TD pass with 4:36 remaining before halftime.
After a 37-yard TD run by Wiederholt, Berg caught an 11-yard TD pass from Nelson. Ireland then tackled Wiederholt in the end zone for a safety.
Ireland ran for a 25-yard touchdown and Berg caught a 26-yard TD pass from Nelson. Nelson added a 2-yard touchdown run and Chad Husman a 3-yard plunge.
Matt Gustafson led the defense with 19 tackles.
