Alta native produces piece of art with piano parts

2002 Alta High graduate Jamie Snyder is one of 10 Dana College students who currently have their "piano art" on display in the Madsen Fine Arts Center Gallery on Dana's campus in Blair, Neb.

Snyder, a freshman majoring in art and the daughter of Rolen and Lynn Snyder of Alta, made the piece (above) as part of Professor Milt Heinrich's two-dimensional design class.

Students took apart two old pianos being replaced by the college and used the pieces to make what Heinrich calls "found art."

The exercise was meant to teach basic concepts in art, but also provided valuable lessons the non-art majors could take into future careers, such as the value of hands-on teaching for future educators, and the importance of promotion for future business people.

The works will be on display throughout October.
