Duhawks' Brown rushes for 232 yards amd two touchdowns
Jeremy Brown rushed for 232 yards and two touchdowns as Loras beat Buena Vista 35-19 in an Iowa Conference game on Saturday in Dubuque.
Loras scored two first-quarter touchdowns to take a 14-0 lead. Brown had a 23-yard run and Ben Burbach caught a 22-yard TD pass from Adam Hamil. Those scores came in the first 6 minutes of the game.
Buena Vista answered with a 7-yard touchdown run by Barry Van Voorst. Michael Sullivan's extra point made it 14-7.
Brown scored his second touchdown of the game on a 5-yard run with 9:59 remaining in the first half to give the Duhawks a 21-7 lead.
Buena Vista, however, scored two touchdowns to pull within 21-19 at halftime. Josh Espinosa caught an 8-yard pass from Eric Wiebers and Van Voorst had a 1-yard plunge. The extra points failed on both touchdowns.
The second half, however, was all Loras. The Duhawks scored a touchdown in each quarter and held Buena Vista out of the end zone to pull away.
Hamil had a 5-yard TD run in the third quarter and Dee Hill scampered 44 yards for a score in the fourth quarter.
Brown had 232 of Loras' 336 rushing yards in the game. Buena Vista rushed for 129 yards. Van Voorst led the way with 84 yards on 23 carries.
Buena Vista did pass for 265 yards in the game. Eric Jamison completed 11 of 23 passes for 136 yards and Eric Wiebers was 10 of 20 for 129 yards.
Espinosa caught six passes for 74 yards and Justin Wiig had six catches for 73 yards.
Buena Vista finished with 394 yards in total offense. Loras generated 453.
Michael Irvin and Scott Jamison led Buena Vista on defense with eight tackles apiece. Bryan Schwartz, Ian Gardner and Sonji Ketiku each had five.
Buena Vista, now 1-3 in the league and 1-4 overall, hosts Upper Iowa this Saturday.
