Masonry Institute Student

Diane Demers of Rembrandt was one of 150 Iowa State University students to participate in the Masonry Institute of Iowa's Student Field Day on Oct. 10, an event giving architecture, engineering and interior design students at the Ames school a chance to work more closely with block, stone, brick and mortar.

Demers, a junior interior design major at ISU, toured a brick plant, a block plant and two masonry job sites in the Des Moines are during the field trip, and worked with a team of 10 students to design and build a wall made out of brick and mortar.

The Masonry Institute of Iowa includes nearly 100 corporate members, as well as 800 masons, 300 laborers and many professional design and engineering firms.
