Threat of middle school knife fight
On the morning of Friday, October 11, at approximately 10:17 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake Middle School in reference to a threat that was made involving a knife.
Upon arrival of officers it was determined that the situation had been secured by School Administrators and they had located and secured the knife. Through interviews police learned that on Thursday, October 10, two juvenile females had threatened another female and advised her that they were going to bring knives to school and wanted to fight her on Friday.
On Friday one of the suspects brought a knife to the school and gave it to the other suspect for the pending disturbance. School Administrators received information of the incident and intervened prior to any additional problems arising. Further they recovered the knife, which had been thrown in a trash can.
Police secured the knife described as a kitchen knife with a 3" blade into evidence. Further they transported the two suspects to the Police Station.
Police then charged Amalia Salcedo, age 13, of Early, and Alexi Galvan, age 14, of Storm Lake both with Harassment 1st Degree (an aggravated misdemeanor) and Going Armed With A Concealed Weapon (aggravated misdemeanor).
Both girls were transported to the Youth Detention Facility in Cherokee pending a court date. The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
