Meat plants a concern in 3-1 vote

Plans were approved 3-1 by the Storm Lake City Council for an improvement project at the water treatment plant.

Council member Denny Vaudt again voted against the approximately $6 million project based on concerns over the project's financing. Council members Wally Burns, Julie Egland and Hector Velez voted to approve the plans. Member Jim Treat was not present.

Vaudt said the project was designed well, but said he felt it was not "critical."

"I still don't think it's fair for a town of 10,000 people to guarantee payment of this water plant," he said.
