Raymond E. Peterson, age 81, of Albert City, died on Saturday September 28, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City.
Funeral service was Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City with Pastor David Bernhardt officiating. Burial was in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Raymond Englebreckt Peterson was born the son of David and Nellie (Johnson) Peterson on April 1, 1921 in rural Laurens. He received his education from Country Schools in the Albert City area, later graduating with the Albert City High School Class of 1937. After high school he attended Iowa State College.
Raymond entered the United States Navy on September 7, 1942 at Great Lakes, Ill., serving on the U.S.S. Wright near Australia, he later received an honorary discharge on February 18, 1946 at Minneapolis, Minn.
Raymond was united in marriage to Marlis Nelson on June 6, 1948 at the Elfsborg Lutheran Church in rural Pomeroy.
Raymond was a life-long farmer, who took great pride in his work. He was active in his community by serving on Farm Bureau committees and the Albert City Elevator Board. He was also a member of the American Legion. He has been a life long member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he was on the church board. He enjoyed spending time fishing with his grandchildren and investing.
He is survived by his daughter, Beverly McGriff and her husband Richard of Laurens; grandchildren, Cory McGriff of Fort Dodge, Kim McGriff of Indianola, Lisa McGriff of West Des Moines and Chris McGriff of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Jorden, Tanner and Tyler McGriff. Also surviving are a sister, Geneva Wenell of Albert City and brother-in-law, Ray Mortenson of Alta; along with many other relatives and friends.
Preceded him in death were his parents; wife, Marlis; two infant daughters; sister, Eunice Mortensen, brother-in-laws, Emery Wenell, Myron Nelson; sister-in-law, Eleanor Nelson Harrold.
