Funeral Services for R.A. "Dick" Holmes, 75, of Hastings, Minn., formerly of Storm Lake and Alta, were held Friday, September 27, at the Ellis-Wise Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Gravely officiating.
R.A. "Dick" Holmes, former assistant chief of the Hastings Fire Department, died Monday, September 23, 2002.
Mr. Holmes was born July 10, 1927, in Storm Lake, the son of John and Kizzie (Garner) Holmes. He attended school at Storm Lake, Aurelia and Alta, where he graduated. He married Mardelle Hansen on May 28, 1947. They farmed near Alta, later moving to Minnesota to a farm near Hastings. He left the farm and was employed by the gas company in Hastings. While there he became a firefighter. When he left the fire department, he worked for the State of Minnesota Fire Marshal and Pipeline Safety. He retired in 1989 and moved to a lake home on Rush Lake, then moved back to Hastings this summer.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Barbara of Zephyhyrhills, Fla., and Alice and Ken Harris of Hastings; grandchildren Richard and Hannah Harris; brother Don and Marj Holmes of Alta; many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son Hugh and one sister, Lucile and Carl Woltermanp.
