Wants to evaluation of town
A team of Alta citizens is looking to raise funds to bring in an Iowa Department of Economic Development expert to town, a move that could help Alta enhance economic opportunities in its downtown area and possibly help bring in the popular Main Street Iowa program to the rural community.
Dr. Paul Hill, Bruce Frederick, Tom Huseman and other members of the Alta Economic Development group are spearheading an effort to bring in Tom Guzman, an expert in downtown revitalization who is the statewide coordinator for Main Street Iowa, a program that has assisted more than 30 Iowa communities since its inception in 1985. Guzman and a team of fellow downtown experts would canvass Alta for three days and compile a complete report on the town, highlighting both the strengths and weaknesses of the community. They would then offer suggestions to town leaders on how to enhance the positives and fix the negatives present in the city.
Due to a lack of state funding for the assessment program, the city would have to pay a cost of $2,500 to bring in Guzman and his associates, but Hill told members of the Chamber of Commerce last week it would be money well spent.
