Graveside services for Velma Robinson, 74, of Cherokee, formerly of Aurelia, were held Tuesday, September 24, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia, with Lay Pastor Bruce Rapp of the First Congregational Church officiating.
Velma died Saturday, September 21, at the Cherokee Villa Nursing Home in Cherokee.
Velma Louise Saxby was born September 14, 1928, the daughter of Melvin Stephen and Rose (Piehl) Saxby at Peterson. She attended school in Peterson, graduating from high school in 1946. On April, 6, 1949 Velma married Russell Keith Robinson in Cherokee. she worked for McWilliams Drug and at the Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia for 32 years, from June of 1962 until her retirement in March of 1994. Velma enjoyed sewing, genealogy, camping, and was active with the Cherokee Ridge Runners.
Preceding Velma in death were her parents, and one infant sister, Elnora Saxby.
Survivors include her husband Russell Robinson of Cherokee; four children, Jeff and his wife Jeanette Robinson of Santee, CA., Nancy and her husband Rufus Daniels of Troy Mills, June and her husband Mike Hanson of Cherokee, and Cindy and her husband Mike Dailey of Cherokee; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vera Saxby and Ida Krumm both of Spencer; and one brother, Orville and his wife Lila Saxby of Cherokee; and other relatives and friends.
